Dear sparklers, it is with a heavy heart that I need to cancel my Faery Hair Sparkles appointments this week (Dec 20-27). The current studies show that the J&J shot I received elicits no anti-body response to the omicron variant, which is now dominant in the US. Even those fully vaxxed without a booster are *at best* 30% protected. People are behaving as if nothing is happening, still gathering and dining indoors together in large numbers, and wearing only cloth masks which are no longer sufficient (I am guilty of this.). It is not safe to expose myself at work until my booster takes effect, which will not be until after the holiday. I'm so sorry for the disappointment, but our health and well-being need to come first. The sparkles will still be here, once I'm boosted! Thank you so much, as always, for the ongoing support, patience, and understanding as we navigate these unstable waves. May you have a gentle holiday. ✨🧚❄💖🌟

Hope your December is a gentle one so far.  Today I got an MRI on my troublesome shoulder, and we got keys to a different apartment, so this week is hectic and stressful for this sparkle faery. My availability is more limited than usual this month - I may add more toward the end of the month if the move to the apartment goes smoothly.

Last Friday, more than half of my appointments canceled the day of service. There has been a big increase in last-minute cancellations since pandemic. So going forward, card info will be required for booking, and a $25 cancellation fee will be charged if appointments are cancelled less than 24 hours before your scheduled time. This is to protect my time, and also to be fair to all the people who message me throughout the week looking for appointments when I am fully booked. I am so grateful for your patience and support with this new process. Fingers crossed this helps solve the problem at least a little bit. Thank you for understanding! 🍂

My friends and I are hosting trick-or-treating at the Historic Overlook House this Sunday, Halloween, 10/31/21 5-9pm, no sparkling during the event but you're welcome to stop by if you're in the neighborhood, get some candy and wave hello! Kiddos are not allowed indoors for Halloween, and we hosts will stay in masks while interacting with them. 

We hope to perform the Thriller zombie dance at 6pm on Halloween, come check us out if you can! 🧟

Proof of vaccination is still required for adults who are able to be vaccinated, for in-person sparkles with me. Kiddos under 16 and anyone with a medical exception are welcome regardless of vaccine status! I will keep an eye on the numbers and lift that restriction when I feel safe to do so. This is an extra safety measure in addition to all of the covid protocols I follow that are required for hair services in Oregon, to protect my at-risk and younger clients who can't get vaccinated, and everyone else. Safer fairy hair sparkles services

Sparkly friends! Just a quick note that going forward, I will require vaccination for Faery Hair Sparkles services for all adults, unless unable due to age or a medical reason, and will be checking at all appointments. All unvaccinated children under 16 are welcome! This is to protect my young and at-risk clients, and everyone else. I've followed all covid protocols for hair services for the entirety of the pandemic - this seems like the best way to protect my sparkly community.

Edited to add: The vaccine requirement is not forever! Just until things calm down. This was triggered by having so many littles getting their "back to school" sparkles - I want to protect them and my high-risk clients, as well as everyone else. I cherish absolutely every customer and respect everyone's personal autonomy. <3

If you feel like you need to be outside, OR, if you have ADA requirements and cannot climb stairs, let me know and we can set up in the Garden Room or back patio, I just need a heads up beforehand :)

Sat Aug 7th Faery Hair at Oak Park in SE Portland, parking and address

This Saturday August 7th, 11am I'll be tying Faery Hair Sparkles outdoors in a shady picnic area at Oaks Park - Anyone is welcome to swing by! $3 per strand as always, sign-up-in-person day-of, no booking appointments online for this one (as it is for a free Enchanted Forest event).

Parking: Enter the park at first open gate on your left by boathouse. Head toward pink and blue roller coaster. Park in middle lot.

Events like this are always unpredictable. I could be sitting bored for hours or I could be completely overwhelmed, or something in the middle, who knows!  Please understand if I don't answer calls or texts it's because my hands are full of sparkles <3

Fairy Hair Sparkles Enchanted Forest free event, Saturday August 7th 2021 at Oaks Park in Portland

 This Saturday August 7th, 11am at The Oaks Amusement Park will be my next available sparkling opportunity, I'll be tying Faery Hair Sparkles at this Time Traveler's Guild Enchanted Forest costume event, it is free and no costumes are required. Sparkles are $3 per sparkle as always. I'll be sparkling on a sign-up-in-person basis, no booking appointments online for this one. So, if Oaks is in your area and you want to swing by for sparkles, and have time to wait in case my hands are full, I'll be there! I won't be able to answer my phone unless I am on a break, in which case I still won't have a great idea of how busy I'll be at any given time - events like this are always unpredictable. I could be sitting bored for hours or I could be completely overwhelmed, or something in the middle, who knows!  

I've had to step back from in-person sparkling this week, and am instead focusing on my website work, as my emotional state has been extremely fragile as I'm coming up on some loss anniversaries and I currently have no access to professional support for this grief processing. Fairy Hair Sparkles with Sera in Portland, spring 2021

Hi, sweet sparklies. I will be back to scheduling and sparkling in June, 2021. With  taxes to finish and my husband's first vacation in over a year taking up the second half of May, sparkles will have to wait.

I have been sparkling haphazardly in my new Sparkle and Faery Wing studio at the Overlook House in N Portland, mostly manually scheduling via email at serafaery@yahoo.com and by text at 503-720-5486.  I hope to move back to automated bookings again in June, and will post the new link here, when ready!

My vaccination reached full efficacy April 26th, but all covid requirements for hair services in Oregon remain in place for now: masks required at all times, pre-scheduled appointments only and covid screening questions required, sanitizing all surfaces between appointments, no shared tools or supplies, only one person in the studio with me at a time - friends can join, they hang out in a comfy chair in the hallway where we can still see each other and chat. It's working nicely. (I am just really tired of all the cleaning, and so is the skin on my hands.) I'm upstairs so if you need ADA access, let me know before scheduling and I can bring the sparkles down to the main floor, we have wheelchair access in the Garden Room.

 Hi sparkly ones, thank you so much for your patience.  Sparkling appointments are on hold this week, while upgrading to N95 masks in response to the new more transmissible covid strains, and recalibrating my system for covid protection requirements, to make sure we all stay healthy and safe while sparkling together. The online shop is always open for online purchases, of course.

I do get a lot of emails so please forgive me if you have to send a note more than once, sometimes they get lost before I get a chance to compose a reply. I am still deep in grief, I must admit, from losing my mother. This will just take some time. Her obituary should be finalized and published on Wednesday this week. That was a very, very difficult task. I still have a lot to do to make sure I honor her in ways I feel are appropriate, but without sacrificing my own well-being too much. It is a delicate balance. I appreciate everyone's kindness and support, the cards and messages and notes of well wishes and love are wonderful. My mother, Molly Elaine Rodway (née Fleetwood) passed away peacefully, January 19th 2021 at 4:45pm, surrounded in love. Her two children, my brother and I (Shawn and Sarah) were present. We were with her for her last 24 hours, holding hands, embracing, sharing stories and blessings and prayers, and listening to music while she so gently faded. I will provide more info about Celebration of Life and memorial services, donation options, and etc., in the coming weeks. Dearest sparkly ones, thank you so much with your patience as I continue to navigate sparkling during a pandemic - keeping us all safe is my top priority!

Currently, I feel that working just Tuesdays and Fridays, until the surge simmers, is a good compromise. I unfortunately don't feel comfortable offering a booking link publicly yet. But anyone who wants to send me an email at serafaery@yahoo.com can have access to it, so please feel free to ask! Texting is okay but beware I lose texts after a span of time passes, I have no way to search back for people who asked weeks or months ago, I'm so sorry about that, I want to catch everyone and I'm trying but they all just get buried and impossible to find. Email is searchable so that is a safer bet. You are always encouraged to reach out again if you don't hear from me the first or second or third time!

I am opening appointments up one day at a time, making sure I feel safe before booking very far ahead of time. I am still adjusting my time slots, as I'm finding myself excessively over-sparkling out of an eagerness to make up for all of the lost time. I need to limit myself better so that I can serve more people and not over-extend myself.

Currently, I am making about half of what I did before, given the time needed for disinfecting and the cost of the N Portland Overlook House studio. It's not sustainable long term, but when things improve later in the spring and summer, I hope I can increase my efficiency a little bit. It's a difficult dance, but I'm willing to learn! Thank you for your patience as I find my balance in all of this, I appreciate your support more than I can say.

💖 Editing to gently add: if Tuesdays and Fridays don't work from you, I do have some flexibility, so please feel free to ask. I also have enough space to share indoors safely, so if you have a friend or kiddos who can stay in the next room or downstairs while we work, that would be totally fine, too, just let me know what you need.
